I called Mid River Asphalt Company. I asked them to come out and look at our roads. I understand that this company is the last one we used and they are in Troy so I called them and asked them to come look at our roads and give us a cost on what our roads need. The lady I talked to asked me what I wanted done. I told her, I don’t know because I am not a asphalt expert and I would rely on their expertise to tell us what the road needs and also to come up with a schedule to maintain the road for the next 8 to 10 years for what roads like ours typically need. So as soon as I hear from them, and I get their cost, I will post it on here. It’s too late in the year because of the cold weather so I asked her to give us an estimate for this coming spring. We can get other bids too if everyone votes on this for who to use if that’s what the majority of us want.
Fred from Mid Rivers Asphalt sent me his estimate via e mail. He came out to the subdivision and looked at our roads. He said it will need a 2 inch resurface. He will smooth the road in front of each driveway in order for every driveway to make a smooth transition into the road. I asked him about spreading sealer our self and he said if we do that, then it would make a bigger problem than what we have now because when he re paves it, the asphalt would not stick to that do it yourself sealer, so he said do not do that. So here is his estimate to grade and add 2 inches of new asphalt to the roads, 67,467.00, so that number divided by 15 homes equals 4497.80, and that’s not taking into account the money we have in the road account now. I did not get a cost of what it will cost to re seal it and according to google, it depends on wear and tear and the weather but looks like it anywhere from 3 to 5 years or possibly 5 to 10 years. Looks like re paving is a 10 to 20 year cycle and that’s where we are at now. So if we all paid 900 a year for the road, in 5 years that would equal 67500.00 So there’s the numbers, we all need to put this to a vote and come up with a figure that we all need to pay each year for the road. Also, I didn’t realize this but Fred enlightened me on this. He recommended that we use one garbage service for the whole neighborhood. I knew previously there was some talk about using one company and now I know why. Fred said its because these garbage trucks are so very heavy that if we have multiple trucks coming in and out of our subdivision, that is really hard on the roads because of the sheer weight of the garbage trucks. Makes sense to me now so maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to use one service and maybe get a deal from a garbage service if the whole neighborhood uses just one company.
